Oy, such shmaltze! Not only is this remake a terrible, hokey, sentimental piece of dreck (I never saw the previous ones), our dad made us watch this several times as kids, and we were subjected to countless hours of the soundtrack on numerous vacation trips in the car. Thank god for walkmans. I know Neil Diamond has a huge following and is now in the 'so-unhip-he's-cool-in-a-retro-way' category with the younger generations, but I am SO sick of his music, even the wedding party standard 'Sweet Caroline' (which isn't in this film). He ain't much of an actor either. And WHY is Sir Laurence Olivier portaying his uber-religious Jewy father? Did he REALLY need the money? Gevalt!

WHAT!!!??? You are off your gord here. This is a great movie, classic musical to boot. Mitch, as a jewish boy bombing this movie....grandpa would plotz in his grave! Anyways, unlike Mitch, who's body rejected the hours that we were subjected to Jazz Singerness, I guess my body accepted it and grew to love the movie & the music. PS. Sweet Caroline is a favorite amongst my group of friends. We sing to it at EVERY wedding function we go to (along with YMCA)
