The original Star Wars (not the CGI remake version) is my alltime #1 movie. I have seen this movie sooo many times in my life that I can literally recite it line for line for line from start to finnish without missing a beat. BEST MOVIE EVER!!
| ||
Anyone who doesn't like Star Wars is just plain evil.
| ||
OK, I want to go out on a limb here (and probably suffer the Wrath) but I still argue that Empire is the best of the original 3. It was more dark, dramatic and sinister...but maybe it's just me, I'm a different BREED of cat. This is a classic and will ALWAYS be a classic, even when the new 3 are relegated to discount sale on Columbia House. I remember seeing it IN the theatre with my dad and running up and down the aisles making X-Wing sounds (much to the chagrin of other patrons). Papa Mikey!
| ||
Mike, I know lots of people who think that Empire is the best. You can argue that Empire was the best directed, and the screen play was excellent.
| ||
I'm not going to distinguish which of the first 2 movies is better, because they both had the same feel to them in my mind (possibly because they have the same plot! Destroy the deathstar!) Only at #3 did I find it getting a little long in the tooth. And those ewoks were the jarjar binks of my youth.
| ||
No-brainer. One of the best films ever. I remember seeing it in the theaters with my dad and uncle and my uncle was stunned that I knew all the characters before I saw the film. (I had all the toys). I'd be like "That's Chewbacca!" and my uncle was like, "What's a chewbacca?" and I was all like, "He's a wookiee!", and he was all like "No way!" and I was like, "Way!" True story! Also noted for spawning the international dance craze known as the Kenobi Shuffle. And that stormtrooper bumping his head....
| ||
Don't forget Porkins. "Luke-a, Pull-up-a"
| ||
Just rewatched this on the weekend. Seeing it again just reminded me how absolutely terrible the Episodes 1-3 are. They are complete tripe compared the original series. Lucas should be ashamed.
| ||
Yeah, ashamed all the way to the bank.
| ||
| ||
| ||
anyone wanna bust up an R2D2 pinata?
| ||
| ||
Check it out! The present day Porkins looks like a fat cross between Martin Mull and Victor Nerenberg!
| ||
| ||
Stay on target! Luka-pull-upa!
| ||
I can't shake him! | ||

Hey, how do you fix these entries? It's not called Star Wars IV: Star Wars, bitches. It's Star Wars IV: A New Hope. Sheesh.
| ||
Thanks for the tip. Bitch.
| ||
Way to fix it, Brokeback.
| ||
You're welcome, chinballer! Oy! Way to allow a thread to ruin a classic movie! LOL!

Fine, fine. This movie stands out as possibly the single most influential movie of all time. At least, certainly, of my childhood. A brilliant examination of the use of mythological archetypes to relate a fantastic story. Awesome casting led to snappy dialogue and incredible chemistry. The music was so far above its contemporaries that it still, today, brings chills and delight to whoever listens to it. The special effects were a cut above anything up to that point, and still today is used as an example of what is possible. Simply amazing.
| ||
We were actually discussing this at my family's Winterlude party, myself and my uncles: They were saying the Special FX are looking a bit dated. I retorted that the film was made in, what? 1976? THIRTY years ago!!!! And the FX STILL look relatively amazing even by today's standards!! Simply incrdible. AND, my boy is now ravenously devouring all things Star Wars, we've watched all the original trilogy together and he plays "Star Wars : Lego" on the X-box and can ramble off a multitude of characters by name.... "and the cats in the cradle and the silver spooon....."
| ||
Thirty years, sweet jesus. I will admit that special effects technology has come a long way, and that some of the effects in the original, unretouched version do look slightly dated, IN THAT they are models and not computer-rendered CGI crap.
| ||
Everyone do the Kenobi shuffle!
| ||
| ||
What about this mis-hap. I hope someone got fired over that blunder

So I was in HMV the other day and saw that the ORIGINAL trilogy WILL be released on DVD. The 'Han shot first' trilogy. No Lucas updates and CGI. The originals as we knew them before tampering. Ewok end song and all. (Chub Chub!) Don't know when though, hopefully before year's end.

Kind of cute... a take off on Shakespere in Love...

Pretty cool... what Rob would dream of being...

So I did a rewatch last night of the "Special Edition" (1997). Unfortunately this is the only edition released on DVD as far as I am aware. While the movie itself still holds together after all these years, the "updated" special effects they added for this special edition are simply annoying and distracting. Moreover, they are already starting to show their age. The only place in the movie where they work is during the final attack on the death star. But the Jabba scene, the lizards the storm troopers walk around on on Tatooine, and all the extra critters in Mos Eisley are just bloody irritating. George Lucas was brilliant. WAS. F*cktard. ![]() |
