Easily one of the best of the year.
DO NOT read the synopsis if you can help it. I went into this movie stone cold on a friend's recommendation and what a sheer delight.

There is a main character who I will not mention because it may give away the essence of the plot, which I will not discuss here.
I will say that this film could've easily been done in a miscalculated way because of the plot, but it gets the exact tone and mood it needs to be taken seriously, mostly due to Ryan Gosling's excellent performance. There is lots of humour - I and the other theater-goers were LOLing frequently - but there were sweet sympathetic moments too, deserving of tissues. The rest of the cast were all a perfect balance for Gosling. I just saw Gosling in a good performance in 'The Notebook'. Here he is great and Oscar-worthy, and I hope the Academy recognizes it. I also just saw Emily Mortimer in 'Match Point' and again, here she is superb, a doll.
That's all I can say without revealing too much. It is definitely a story unlike any you've ever seen.

Now that I've seen a good dose of Oscar-probables, I have to say that this is my #1 fave for 2007.
Also on the list but in no particular order:

Juno
No Country For Old Men
Ratatouille
Sunshine
The Diving Bell & The Butterfly
The Orphanage
Superbad
Sicko
and, okay, The Simpsons Movie.

Still wanna see more though.....

Just saw this on Mitch's recomendation.

GO RENT THIS MOVIE !!!

It is so good. Gosling IS Oscar worthy, but I guess the academy didn't agree. There are major spoilers here which I too, will not get into, but it's a relatively simple story told brilliantly. The acting is sensational and the casting is spot on. I thought direction could have got an Oscar nod here too. Not sure if it did or not. Same can be said for screen play.
An excellent movie which had me laughing and crying (yes I admit it). A must see, and one of my tops for 2007 as well (I still think I liked No Country For Old Men better).

Wow, I can't believe you agreed with me on this.
I figured this would be one of your 'I can see why you liked it, but it was over my head and not my cup of tea and I was falling asleep' deals.
Kudos to you Deril! There's hope for you yet!
