Synopsis

Solo, a Senegalese cab driver, is working to provide a better life for his young family in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. William, an old man with a lifetime of regrets, hires Solo to take him to Blowing Rock, a peak in which updrafts cause objects that are dropped from it to fly upwards. William does not ask for a ride back from the rock and is obviously depressed, so Solo assumes that the old man intends to commit suicide there. Of my recent spate of movie watching, I think this is probably the best one. It is truly a remarkable film. I defy anyone to find a more natural and inspired performance than the one given by the lead playing Solo, Souléymane Sy Savané. His joy for life is infectious.

Contrast that with the sad and lonely performance given by Red West.

I don't want to say much more than to suggest that everyone ought to seek this film out. It is film making at its lovely best.

I would give this five stars if it were available.
