Synopsis

In 1997, writer-director Michael Haneke (CACHE) made the controversial Austrian thriller, FUNNY GAMES, about two young men who terrorize a family on vacation. A decade later, Haneke was convinced by producer Chris Coen to bring the story to America, filming a nearly word-for-word, shot-for-shot English-language version, even re-creating the locations and sets as obsessively as possible. Pretty good movie that I had never heard of. When I watched 'Roger Dodger' last week, this was one of the prviews on the DVD and looked interesting...yadda yadda yadda...well, here we are.
A remake of an Astrian version (done by the same director), very creepy premise, and yes, if you have children I think this will hit home a little harder (because one of the hostages is a young boy). The family is put through a night of hell by 2 young boys.

I thought the overall suspense held up and had me captured for the whole movie, there were a couple of "COME ON" kinda of moments, but nothing to ruin the movie. Watts stood out for me as the true powerhouse performance. The rest of the cast were kinda meh.

My biggest complaint is that there is ZERO back story as to who the 2 guys are and why they are doing this stuff to a random family. These questions are never answered, and the viewer is left to assume that they are just crazy.

I give full "props" (I hate that term, thank YOU very much Randy Jackson) for the ending.

Really don't want to give anything away, but a decent outing all in all. Re-watch value for me is very minimal.
