This is where I have to be really objective because this movie just isn't my cup of tea, but try telling that to my niece who can sit transfixed for viewing after viewing. I saw it a long time ago as a child, and obviously it's aimed more at little girls than boys, but just did a full rewatch with my niece and it IS the classic princess rags-to-riches/true magical love template, complete with Once Upon A Time and They Lived Happily Ever After.
And of course, the detailed painstaking hand-drawn animation that is so sparse nowadays still looks great. I've never been a huge Disney fan in general (I was always more Looney Toons), but the classics are classics for a reason. Again, totally not my thing, but the young'uns eat it up. It's inoffensive, wholesome, family entertainment, if that's what you want.
(I also saw them open for David Lee Roth in 1987!)

Well I for one have now seen this MANY MANY times. It is a Disney Classic. Yes the animation is no match for what can be done now a days, but still fantastic for it's time.
