Balls!
I know the entire free world loved this flick. Why, is beyond me. This was basically Michael Mann jizzing into the projector. The whole hype at the time was having DeNiro and Pacino finally act together (Godfather 2 didn't have any scenes of them together.). This film didn't deliver : they had one small scene together. The rest was hum-drum and loooong. So stands my theory that Val Kilmer hasn't done anything good since 'Top Secret!'.

The one star was for Hank Azaria.

You're crazy. I loved this movie. The shot-out scene in the middle of the street after the robbery is one of the best I've seen. Story is great, acting is great. Val actually turned down a 2nd Batman flick to do this (which I personally would never have done) but he turned in a good performance. Mitchy - You is crazy baby!

I'm with Deril here. Great stylized movie. Gorgeous cinematography. Awesome over the top performance from Pacino. Classic Michael Mann. Second only to The Insider in his oeuvre.

BTW, Martin Scorcese claimed this as the 10th best American film of the 1990s. Not a bad endorsement.

Plus, the movie had Jon Voight. JON VOIGHT!

I need to re-watch this...I saw it AGES ago and I can't remember a single f'ing thing about it...yes, it left THAT much of an impression on me.

I'll re-see it soon as I'm coming to Taranna and raiding my bro's 18,000 DVD library of movies like this one.

BTW, Mitch and Deril! Mini-MANOS T.O.-style!?!

I'll be there from the 18th of August to, well...whenever we get fed up and go home...most likely the 26th-27th.

I think my brother owns this, so I might give it another go, but am hesitant to do so. I mean, there's still so many unwatched zombie movies out there!!

So I am watching Ebert and Roeper this morning (with guest host Jay Leno!, due to an ailing Roger Ebert...), and they're reviewing Miami Vice, and Roeper is saying it is not as good as Heat: I quote: "Which should have won Best Picture in 1995"!!!

Now, I am on record as loving Heat, but in my mind it is a 4-star guilty pleasure - not best picture material...

For the record, here is what was nominated in 1995:

* Braveheart (1995) - Mel Gibson (I); Alan Ladd Jr.; Bruce Davey

Other Nominees:
# Apollo 13 (1995) - Brian Grazer
# Babe (1995) - George Miller (II); Doug Mitchell (I); Bill Miller (II)
# Postino, Il (1994) - Gaetano Daniele; Mario Cecchi Gori; Vittorio Cecchi Gori
# Sense and Sensibility (1995) - Lindsay Doran

This was better than Apollo 13 & Babe (IMO)

Mikey,
Mitch said we were a-go for Saturday evening Aug 19 - SNAKES ON A PLANE !!!!!! I think it's playing on IMAX near my house (have to double check that).
We can also rent a bunch o-crap and watch at my place, or just pick another evening to do so.

PS. Mitch, I do own this so you SHOULD re-watch and see if you like it better.

Woah woah woah...

I'll have to CONFIRM the 19th...I said I'd be in TOWN that week, but Saturday night might be prime time family time. I DO have like 3 birthdays and an anniversary to attend and Saturday nights are usually when those kind of things are done.

I'll have to confirm, but it might be more like a Wednesday night or some off-weekend kinda thing...

Papa Mikey!
