Director Ridley Scott's hauntingly prescient vision of the not-too-distant future stars Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, a retired police assassin, or "blade runner." The Los Angeles of 2019 is a dark, polluted, overcrowded dystopia dominated by cloud-piercing buildings and looming neon billboards, the air dense with acid rain and flying traffic. While others were watching Pee Wee over and over, this is the movie I watched repeatidly. If you haven't see it, I highly recommend getting it. It's a pretty dark movie about the not too distant future. Everything about is perfectly done. Has a style that other movies try to replicate. A true masterpiece.

Interesting bit of trivia: There are many advertisers in the movie (the future has much neon) that went out of business or went downhill after the release. Apple and TDK are the two that come to mind. They call this the "Blade Runner Effect."

I also read the book. It couldn't be more different. We're talking Lawnmower Man different.

When people catch me off guard and ask, "Quick! What's your favourite movie of ALL time?!" Blade Runner is invariably my answer. It is and always will be in my top 10 and most of the time in my top 3...though that changes with my mood.

Absolutely fabulous. If I could give it 5 out of 4 stars, I would.

I may get shamed for saying this, but I've never actually seen this movie from start to finnish. I've only seen bits n' pieces on TV. I am a huge sci-fi fan, but somehow, I never found it all that appealing. Maybe I should try and rent it and watch the entire movie.

Hey Hey Hey! No "burning" talk on this site! This is a perfectly legit site. We don't condone ripping off movies, even through it's incredibly easy, free, and everybody does it!

Finally watched this. And loved it. Expectations were high as everyone I know has given this 4 stars, and everyone tells me "WHAT!!??? YOu havn't seen Balde Runner!!!???".
Very dark and very original. I liked that the replicants were very human in that if shot, they died. Not like other sci-fi stuff were the "androids" can't be killed (ie. terminator). CAst was solid and Rutger Hauer was very creepy at the end when he'showling while hunting down Ford (after breaking his fingers). Also liked how Ford became the hunted. OPening sequence when they were questioning the replicant was great. It got my attention right away and kept me interested.

PS. - Why is the future so dark & rainy?

Not ALL the movie was dark an rainy, just the STREET level scenes. In a grand metaphor on societal levels, the movie depicts a lower caste level of society on the streets all grimy, miserable and claustraphobic, always raining, etc.

Meanwhile, in UBER-giant towers, the elite members of society sit in opulance and luxury, with sunshine, robot birds and hot leather clad replicants.
